Race Report – MidOhio and VIR July 2011

Busy last 2 weekends for me, was at MidOhio racing my car (#48) July 15-17 then back on the road again this past weekend with Ed Boothman’s FFR#85 to VIR to do some time trials/testing.

At MidOhio I did great, won both Saturday and Sunday sprint races. Sunday’s race I was battling with Paul Arnold (newcomer to the series) most of the race until he locked up his brakes braking on the back straight, then with Jim at the end. Im still working on video from Sunday as I have Paul and Jim’s incar along with mine and want to cut them all together into one clip.

VIR this past weekend was extremely hot, temps well over 100deg. Jim between MidOhio and VIR (only 2 days) changed his car to the newly proposed 2012 rules which includes a bump in HP bringing us up to 320HP at the wheels (my car only puts down 220HP), different front spindles/bigger front brakes, and front swaybar. We were invited by Grassroots Motorsports magazine to participate in the Ultimate Track Car Challenge (UTCC) with Ed’s FFR#85 taking place Friday. Jim test/tuned his car to get last bugs figured out because the same magazine will also do a writeup about the FFR Challenge Series highlighting the new 2012 rules and comparing the current spec with the new spec (Marty Howard, a fellow FFR Challenge Series competitor met us at VIR Saturday so Scott Lear from Grasroots can drive both and compare.) I managed to run 6sec/lap faster in Ed’s #85 then in my car, even with the hot temperatures! We placed 20th out of 80 in the UTCC with the cars in front of us having a ton of HP.
